PFT: Saints' Brees ties NFL's 'DiMaggio record'

Green Bay Packers Rodgers is chased by New Orleans Saints Johnson during their NFL football game in Green BayReuters

Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers were both outstanding on Sunday at Lambeau Field, but in a back-and-forth game with plenty of twists and turns, it was Rodgers? Packers who ended up on top of Brees? Saints, 28-27.

Brees completed 35 of 54 passes for 446 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions, but that wasn?t enough. Although he maneuvered them into range for an apparent go-ahead field goal late in the fourth quarter, the Saints? successful kick was called back on a holding penalty, and when they were backed up the Saints missed.

Rodgers completed 31 of 41 passes for 319 yards, with four touchdowns and one interception, and a short completion on a third down just after the two-minute warning iced the game and gave the Packers the win.

For the second consecutive week, the Packers suffered at the hands of bad officiating. Last week it was the infamous Hail Mary in Seattle that wrongly gave the Seahawks a touchdown and likely led to the end of the NFL?s lockout of its referees. This week there are no replacements to blame, just longtime ref Jeff Triplette and his crew, who botched several calls, including a fumble by Saints kickoff returner Darren Sproles that they wrongly ruled down by contact, and a push-off in the end zone by Saints receiver Marques Colston on a touchdown catch that should have been called back for offensive pass interference.

But this time the bad officiating didn?t cost the Packers the game, and they improved to 2-2. The Saints fought hard, but in the end they lost once again, falling to 0-4.

Bruxism or Teeth Grinding

Bruxism or Teeth Grinding refers to persistent grinding and clenching of the teeth, inadvertently, and at wrong times. Bruxers (individuals with bruxism) are often ignorant that they have developed this habit, and often do not know that treatment is available until damage to the mouth and teeth have been done.

Types of Bruxism or Teeth Grinding

Bruxism is classified frequently as either:

  • Awake Bruxism. Patient regularly clench teeth and jaw when awake
  • Sleep Bruxism. Patient subconsciously grinds teeth and squeezes your jaw muscles in sleep. Partners may take notice of the grinding or clenching, which can be noisy.
  • Primary Bruxism. ?It occurs without any underlying medical condition
  • Secondary Bruxism.?It is caused by another condition such as depression or anxiety, medication such as antidepressants or drugs.

    Tooth Grinding

Causes of Bruxism or Teeth Grinding

Bruxism or Teeth Grinding?can be caused not just by stress and anxiety but also by sleep disorders, an abnormal bite or teeth that are missing or crooked. Bruxism often affects persons with nervous tension such as anger, pain, or frustration, and/or persons with aggressive, hurried, or overly competitive tendencies.

Although in adults teeth grinding is often the result of stress, the same is not always correct with children. Other possible causes of teeth grinding in children?include:

  • Irritation in the mouth
  • Allergies
  • Misaligned teeth

Bruxism or Teeth Grinding

Symptoms of Bruxism or Teeth Grinding

The symptoms of teeth grinding?include following:-

  • Dull headaches
  • Jaw soreness
  • Teeth that are painful or loose
  • Fractured teeth
  • Abraded teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Facial pain
  • Overly sensitive teeth
  • Tense facial and jaw muscles
  • Headaches
  • Dislocation of the jaw
  • Wearing away of the tooth enamel, exposing the underlying dentin (inside of the tooth)
  • A popping or clicking in the temporomandibular joint
  • Tongue indentations
  • Damage to the inside of the cheek

Diagnosis of Bruxism or Teeth Grinding

The teeth are examined for evidence of Bruxism, it is often pointed out by the tips of the teeth appearing flat. If signs and symptoms are present, the condition will be monitored for changes over the several subsequent visits before a treatment program is established.

Treatment of Bruxism or Teeth Grinding

Mouth Guard for Bruxism

  • Behavior Adjustment
Educating the patient how to rest his/her tongue, teeth, and lips properly, and training how to rest the tongue upward may ease discomfort on the jaw while keeping the teeth apart and lips closed.
  • Mouthguard
An especially built-in plastic mouth appliance may be worn at night to absorb the power of biting. This appliance may be of assistance to prevent future damage to the teeth and assist in changing the patient?s behavior.
  • Biofeedback
Biofeedback involves an electronic instrument that measures the amount of muscle activity of the mouth and jaw. It ?indicates the patient when too much muscle activity is taking place so that the behavior can be changed. This is especially helpful for daytime bruxers.
  • Botox. ?It weakens the muscle enough to reduce the effects of grinding and clenching, but not so much as to prevent proper use of the muscle. Botox treatment typically involves five or six injections into the masseter muscles. It takes a few minutes per side, and the patient starts feeling the effects the next day

Gaming In The Cloud Is Great News For Players, If The Industry Can ...

Yesterday, gaming giant Electronic Arts acquired Swedish gaming company ESN, which creates web- and cloud-based services for game developers. It's further proof that EA is bolstering its cloud-gaming services to keep up with its audience, which is now as used to web and mobile social games as it is traditional video games, such as EA's Fifa or Madden NFL.

Cloud gaming poses a potentially significant threat to gaming industry stalwarts because it makes the need to buy hard copies of video games obsolete. When you're streaming and playing from the cloud, you don't need to wait months or years on a lead time for the newest version of a game--it's simply expected that as developers make improvements, you'll see those updates reflected in your games much more quickly, the way frequent app updates work on your smartphone. That's generally great news for gamers as, in theory, it means new games will be the latest and greatest versions of all the time.

But it's not great news for EA-type games publishers and console makers. Naturally, EA's not alone in this game of catch-up. Sony is another big player making bets on cloud gaming. In July, Sony acquired streaming video-game maker Gaikai for $380 million to bring its gaming services to the cloud, where it's free to stream to any device, not just Sony-produced ones such as the PlayStation.

A Global Industry Analysts report projects the cloud gaming market will hit $2 billion by 2018. That may seem paltry compared to the $78.5 billion the global video game market is projected to make in revenue this year, but $2 billion is more significant when you compare it to the much tamer $8.5 billion of total revenue that's coming from mobile games on smartphones and tablets.

Savage won a legal battle Thursday Sept. 27, 2012 and announced he was leaving Talk Radio Network, which broadcast his show that attracted more than 8 million listeners a week. (AP Photo/John Storey)

(AP) ? Michael Savage's talk show left the airwaves Thursday after the conservative host won a legal battle with his longtime employer, although his attorney said discussions with new networks are already under way.

Savage posted a message on his website Thursday evening under the headline "Free at Last!" that said he was free to work with any station or network from now on. He said he "will not be heard on the radio for some time."

His attorney Daniel Horowitz said Savage left Talk Radio Network after obtaining a favorable ruling in arbitration Thursday afternoon.

More than 8 million people listen to Savage's show each week, placing him behind only Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity in ratings, according to the magazine Talkers. The immediate effect that his abrupt departure would have on companies that advertise on his show was unclear.

An email sent to Oregon-based Talk Radio Network was not immediately returned. Savage's bio and name already have been removed from the company's website.

Horowitz says Savage has been fighting the network for two years to get out a contract that was 10 years old and prevented the host from switching employers. Horowitz said the agreement lacked protections afforded to artists and entertainers under California law, and tied Savage to Talk Radio Network indefinitely.

Horowitz said Savage spent more than $900,000 fighting his case but was awarded more than $1 million in arbitration. The agreement also calls for Savage to be able to obtain all archived tapes of his show.

Savage, who broadcasts from San Francisco, was heard on nearly 400 stations and has gained notoriety for offending immigrants and minorities, calling the Muslim holy book, the Quran, a "book of hate" and being banned in 2009 from traveling to England for allegedly fostering extremism or hatred. After that decision, the host appealed to one of the targets of his barbs, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for help.

A State Department spokesman said at the time that countries have a right to determine who is allowed to enter, but declined to comment further on Savage's request.

Why did you marry me? | AskDrO.com

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yGFOxP0ZFg

Why did you marry me?

Marriage is meant to be a life-long commitment but surprisingly enough, some who decide to take this journey don?t even know why they?re doing it. Deciding to say ?I do? should be based on more than just the idea of being in love. It shouldn?t be a last resort because you?re over the age of 35, and it shouldn?t take place if both parties don?t equally desire it.

Hollywood marriages these days seem to be a sham with couples barely making it two years at the max and the general population is not far behind the trend. ?Nowadays, divorce appears to be a part of the marriage deal, almost like people expect you to have more than one.

One of the main reasons marriages or relationships fail is because the individuals don?t know their partners. This could have resulted from a number of scenarios. One, a couple could be together because they felt forced to do so through an unexpected pregnancy or some other life circumstance. They rushed to the alter via peer pressure or tradition, without really getting to know the person they were committing to. Two, pure physical attraction without any emotional or spiritual connection. This could possibly be one of the worst reasons to marry an individual because the union is solely based on a basic surface connection. ?Or three, the last resort, emergency back- up plan marriages. These people have probably surpassed the age that they thought they would get married and are now just desperate to get it over and done with. They want families and security, so they just go along with the first opportunity presented.

However, in order for a marriage or any relationship to function properly, the individuals have to know why they?re in it in the first place. Are they the person you trust the most? Can the two of you be goofy in public together? Ask your partner, why did you marry me or why do you want to marry me? It should be discussed fairly early in the relationship to avoid some of the frequent issues that come attached to a wedding ring.

Why It's Bad That Smartphones Have Banished Boredom

When I started my meditation practice I was a full blown smart-phone addict. One of the hardest earliest barriers to get over was the idea of sitting idle for 30 minutes. Somehow mindlessly browsing reddit was okay but just sitting and watching my breath was not. I'd get flooded with all kinds of thoughts about how I should be doing something productive and typically that was accompanied by anxiety.

At some point I had to stop and ask myself, who exactly do I think is judging my behavior? Why do I even feel like I need to justify what I'm doing with my personal time? Of course the realization came that it was all me, all my mind, and I let go of the habit.

Now I meditate regularly and still use my smart phone. I look forward to sitting and knowing I get time to just be. I'm comfortable with that and reap the benefits. I'm significantly less stressed during the day and my mind is calmer. I understand myself and my actions better. I still use the phone, but sometimes I don't. Sometimes it's nice to just be with your own mind.

I wouldn't say smartphones have only banished boredom though. They, like many of our modern baubles, have also lowered the bar for when boredom sets in.

An aside I feel is related I can't remember the last time I had a good meaningful conversation with a group of friends or even one on one. Hell, even meaningless conversation with depth seems to have left. It seems like on average things are being reduced to one or two sentences on a topic and topics which require multiple layers of thinking just don't come up.

I find it paradoxical as someone who was a loner in school I can look at my life now and see more friends, supportive family, great co-workers, technology like facebook, SMS, and smart phones to be always connected and yet I feel more alone than I ever have. I feel lacking in community.

Ryan Compares NFL Refs to Obama

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Republican vice presidential nominee compared the NFL's replacement referees to President Obama and slammed an apparent blown call during the Green Bay Packers loss to the Seattle Seahawks during Monday Night Football.

A few hours later, Obama tweeted about the lockout and the refs, but he didn't mention Ryan's analogy.

"NFL fans on both sides of the aisle hope the refs' lockout is settled soon. -bo ," is what came from the @BarackObama Twitter feed. A tweet signed "-bo" is supposed to signify it comes personally from the president.

Ryan, who hails from Janesville, Wisc., made clear in Ohio today that he was unhappy with the controversial call as a Packers fan. But he went further, using the refs in a riff on the Obama White House that deviated from his traditional stump speech.

"I'm going to start off with something that was really troubling that occurred last night. Did you guys watch that Packer game last night? I mean give me a break!" Ryan complained. "It is time to get the real refs."

Ryan then drew a parallel between NFL's struggle with replacement referees and President Obama's economic job performance during his term in the White House.

"It reminds me of President Obama and the economy. If you can't get it right, it's time to get out. I half-think that these refs work part-time for the Obama administration and the Budget Office," Ryan said.

"They see the national debt clock staring them in the face, they see a debt crisis, and they just ignore and pretend it didn't even happen. They're trying to pick the winners and losers and they don't even do that very well. Look, we have a big choice to make. It's not an ordinary time."

Ryan wasn't done yet. A short time later, the budget guru told supporters that he and Mitt Romney are out campaigning "trying to deserve this victory" and "show you how we're going to deal with it." "The principles we will use, the policies we will put in place, and we will not duck this issue," he said.

"Unlike the Seattle Seahawks last night, we want to deserve this victory. We want to earn this victory, we want a real victory because we want a mandate to fix this mess in Washington before it gets out of our control." "I'm sorry a Packer fan," Ryan said in an attempt to excuse himself for breaking from his traditional remarks. "I had to get that last one in there."

But it is not a perfect analogy for the Republican ticket. The replacement refs are working during a labor dispute between the unionized referees and NFL owners in which the owners have locked out the refs. Both Ryan and Romney generally favor less powerful unions.

The league announced Tuesday that a review by the NFL officiating department affirmed the controversial ruling from Monday' night's game. The Seahawks win.

No Time to Cook? Top Tips for Eating Healthy on the Go

Spokane Fitness Blog by Amy Hunt

If you?re trying to eat healthy, it can be very difficult to do so if your only option at the time is fast food or a restaurant. In many cases, even if you think you?re eating something that?s good for you, there may be a lot of unwanted elements in that choice. While eating well on the go is a challenge, the good news is it?s not impossible:

1. Choosing a Drink

Avoid choosing a beverage that?s packed with wasted calories. Soda and many juices are filled with sugar. Shakes are even worse. In fact, shakes can have more calories than an entire meal! While your best option is water, if you have to have a drink with flavor, go diet.

2. Portion Control

Regardless of where you are, the best way to keep fast food in check is to watch your portions. No matter how unhealthy a choice may be, sticking to a small portion will minimize the negative impact it has on your overall calories for the day. While making healthy food choices is important for many reasons, since actual weight gain boils down to a matter of ?calories in vs. calories out,? going with something small at a restaurant will prevent you from blowing the diet or meal plan you?re following.

3. Salads

While salads are almost always a safe choice, you still have to be aware of the dressing and other items that may come with it. If you?re at a restaurant, ask for your dressing on the side. And instead of toppings like croutons or noodles, you can get quality protein and feel more satisfied by opting for grilled chicken on top of your salad.

4. Picking A Burger

There are a few things to keep in mind when ordering a hamburger. Single patties are always better than double patty sandwiches. And while having a cheeseburger isn?t the worst choice in the world, do be weary of thick sauces like mayo. Mustard is actually the best for keeping calories to a minimum.

5. Chicken Options

At many fast food places, a chicken sandwich will definitely be the best thing to order. Just be sure that you choose grilled chicken instead of crispy and/or breaded.

6. Tacos

Many people are surprised to learn that tacos can actually be a very healthy choice when you?re on the go. As we?ve seen with other options, your best bet is chicken. And instead of piling on the sour cream, go with lettuce, tomato and onion. Keep in mind that while lean beef and guacamole are a little higher in calories, they?re still much better than a large percentage of fast food options.

Even though it may be difficult to eat healthy at a fast food place or restaurant, it can be done. The things to keep in mind are drink water, stick to small portions, don?t sabotage your salad and focus on protein without adding tons of calories.

How many times in a normal week do you eat at a restaurant or fast food place?

Mitt Romney: A warrior for the wealthy?

MItt Romney represents an?unprecedented concentration of wealth and power that?s undermining our economy and destroying our democracy, Reich writes.

By Robert Reich,?Guest blogger / September 24, 2012

Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney acknowledges the cheers from the crowd at a campaign rally in Pueblo, Colo., Monday. Romney pays a tax rate of only 14 percent on $13 million of income in 2011 because he exploits a loophole that allows private equity managers to treat their income as capital gains, Reich writes.

It?s not just his giant income or the low tax rates he pays on it. And it?s not just the videotape of him berating almost half of America, or his endless gaffes, or his regressive budget policies.

It?s something that unites all of this, and connects it to the biggest underlying problem America faces ? the unprecedented concentration of wealth and power at the very top that?s undermining our economy and destroying our democracy.

Romney just released his 2011 tax returns, showing he paid $1.9 million in taxes on more than $13 million of income last year ? for an effective tax rate of 14.1 percent. (He released his 2010 return in January, showing he paid an effective tax rate of 13.9 percent.)

America has had hugely wealthy presidents before ? think of Teddy Roosevelt and his distant cousin, Franklin D. Roosevelt; or John F. Kennedy, beneficiary of father Joe?s fortune.

But here?s the difference. These men were champions of the working class and the poor, and were considered traitors to their own class. Teddy Roosevelt railed against the ?malefactors of great wealth,? and he busted up the oil and railroad trusts.

FDR thundered against the ?economic royalists,? raised taxes on the wealthy, and gave average working people the right to form unions ? along with Social Security, unemployment insurance, a minimum wage, and a 40-hour workweek.

But Mitt Romney is not a traitor to his class. He is a sponsor of his class. He wants to cut their taxes by $3.7 trillion over the next decade, and hasn?t even specified what ?loopholes? he?d close to make up for this gigantic giveaway.

And he wants to cut benefits that almost everyone else relies on ? Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, food stamps, unemployment insurance, and housing assistance.

He?s even a warrior for his class, telling his wealthy followers his job isn?t to worry about the ?47 percent? of Americans who won?t vote for him, whom he calls ?victims? and he berates for not paying federal incomes taxes and taking federal handouts.

(He mangles these facts, of course. Almost all working Americans pay federal taxes ? and the federal taxes that have been rising fastest for most people are Social Security payroll taxes, which aren?t collected on a penny of income over $110,100. Moreover, most of the ?47 percent? whom he accuses of taking handouts are on Medicare or Social Security ? the biggest ?entitlement? programs ? which, not incidentally, they paid into during their working lives.)

Money means power. Concentrated wealth at the top means extraordinary power at the top. The reason Romney pays a rate of only 14 percent on $13 million of income in 2011 ? a lower rate than many in the middle class ? is because he exploits a loophole that allows private equity managers to treat their income as capital gains, taxed at only 15 percent.??

And that loophole exists solely because private equity and hedge fund managers have so much political clout ? as a result of their huge fortunes and the money they?ve donated to political candidates ? that neither party will remove it.?

In other words, everything America is learning about Mitt Romney ? his tax returns, his years at Bain Capital, the video of his speech to high-end donors in which he belittles half of America, his gaffes, the budget policies he promotes ? repeat and reenforce the same underlying reality.??

Western States Lawmakers Call for Quicker ... - LNG World News

The Center for LNG praised a bipartisan group of 16 House Members who called for an expedited review process for applications to export liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The legislators ? all representing districts in the western region of the United States ? sent the letter to Steven Chu, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), where all LNG export applications must be reviewed.

Led by Reps. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) and Jim Matheson (D-Utah), the lawmakers noted that ?Creating more opportunities to sell natural gas into global markets and access overseas customers could help the goals of increasing natural gas use and smooth out historical boom-bust cycles. Realizing sustainable natural gas prices will continue to stimulate the resurgence of U.S. manufacturing, power generation, chemical and agriculture sectors, as well as continue to keep costs low to heat our homes and fuel our nation?s transportation needs.?

The Center for LNG, a trade group representing the LNG industry, agreed with the lawmakers.

?Restarting the permitting process for LNG facilities would give the United States a unique opportunity to generate more public revenues, increase investment in the U.S. economy, create new jobs, and reduce our trade deficit,? said Center for LNG president Bill Cooper. ?Promoting exports is a longstanding policy in the United States, including the President?s National Export Initiative, which is designed to create jobs by doubling U.S. exports by 2015.?

Yesterday?s letter follows a similar effort from earlier this summer, when a bipartisan group of 44 House lawmakers from Texas and Louisiana also wrote to DOE to encourage an expedited review of LNG facilities, bringing the total number of House Members supporting expedited approval to 82.

?This is yet another indication that Americans are ready to get back to work. Approving LNG export facilities would be a significant source of new jobs and will help re-grow our struggling economy,? Cooper added.

Three Democrats and 13 Republicans representing the states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming all signed the letter.

SHOW BITS: Moore a wallflower, Klum a traffic cop

IT'S NOT TV, IT'S AN AFTER-PARTY

Show Bits brings you the 64th annual Primetime Emmy Awards through the eyes of Associated Press journalists. Follow them on Twitter where available with the handles listed after each item.

Everything was coming up roses ? and daisies, lilacs and tulips ? for Julianne Moore at HBO's floral-themed Emmys after-party.

In her bright yellow dress, Moore practically blended in with the colorful decor that covered the floor, walls and tables. The first-time Emmy winner, who portrayed Gov. Sarah Palin in the TV movie "Game Change," held court with her trophy at a table near the party's centerpiece: a circular sofa surrounded by giant faux flowers. She posed for photos with eager attendees ? even when they seemed apprehensive about asking for yet another picture.

"Are you kidding? I'll never get tired of this," she said with a grin before pinning her red locks up in a makeshift bun. "I just wish it wasn't so hot."

Nearby at his own table, "Boardwalk Empire" star Steve Buscemi helped himself to a platter of desserts, including macaroon lollipops. He eventually loosened his tie.

Several HBO stars, including "True Blood" vampire Alex Skarsgard and shape-shifter Sam Trammel, mingled throughout the sprawling soiree held outside the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. Attendees feasted on such dishes as kale salad, purple roasted potatoes and chicken with gnocchi.

Nicole Kidman, who was nominated alongside Moore for lead actress in a TV movie for "Hemingway & Gellhorn," and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, made a brief appearance at the party, which included a stop to chat with Jane Fonda and Michael J. Fox, before Urban led Kidman out through the massive crowd.

IT'S PARTY TIME

The first stop after the show for most Emmy nominees and winners is the Governors Ball, held at the Los Angeles Convention Center across the street from the Nokia Theatre.

Heidi Klum directed traffic as guests arrived, many stopping to pose for a photo under the dramatic red arch at the entrance.

"Move along, move along," she said.

Among the early arrivals to the party, themed "A Romantic Rhapsody in Red," were Zooey Deschanel, Christina Hendricks, Mayim Bialik and Jon Cryer.

Cryer toted his Emmy in one hand and a glass of red wine in the other, as Hendricks sipped from a cocktail glass and finished dinner.

On the menu: A smoked salmon avocado sphere, roasted tenderloin with mushroom risotto fries and white chocolate raspberry cake.

After the ball, parties around town beckoned. At least half a dozen fetes were planned to celebrate nominees and winners.

COSTNER RECALLS 'MOMENTOUS DAY'

Kevin Costner now has an Emmy to go with the Oscars and Golden Globes that mark a long and successful journey since the day he first told his parents he had decided to become an actor.

That news didn't go down well in his blue-collar Southern California household. His mother was a welfare worker and his father an electrician and later a utility executive.

"My father turned around and said, 'What? How are you going to make a living, how are you going to take care of somebody?" Costner recalled backstage at Sunday's Emmys. "In his mind I was throwing everything away."

He had earned a college degree in marketing and finance, but never wanted to use it.

"There was a moment in time where I knew exactly what I wanted to be and I needed to explain that to my parents," he said, adding it was "a really momentous thing."

NO HOME RUN FOR KIMMEL; CALL IT A TRIPLE

Even with his joking "In Memoriam" self-tribute, Jimmy Kimmel kept this year's Emmycast focused squarely on the Emmys, resisting the urge as host to make the show about himself.

His jokes weren't standout, his comedy bits felt pedestrian. But Kimmel presided in professional style.

And he seemed to have fun ? especially when removing his parents from the auditorium.

He accused them of lying when they told him that if he tried hard enough he could accomplish anything he set his mind to? even win an Emmy.

He didn't win that Emmy on Sunday, so Mom and Dad had to go.

It may have been the funniest moment in the show.

___

JON STEWART DELIVERS AN F-BOMB

It wouldn't be an awards show without an f-bomb.

Actually, it would be, but an f-bomb always adds spice, even when bleeped.

The man who did the honors at Sunday night's Emmy show was Jon Stewart, excitedly accepting his 10th consecutive trophy for best variety series.

He began his acceptance speech by noting that "The Daily Show" deals in topical comedy, "which has the shelf life of egg salad." He added that the Emmy does indicate "The Daily Show" has some value.

In some future age, he went on to say, holding his Emmy aloft, aliens arriving on Earth "will find a box of these."

"And they will know how predictable these (bleeping) things are," he added.

WE'RE OUT OF HERE!

Tina Fey was the first celebrity out of her seat after "Modern Family" won the last Emmy of the night and Jimmy Kimmel threatened to continue the show for another hour.

The "30 Rock" star and several others bolted for the doors closest to the stage, the most direct route to the posh Governors Ball across the street at the LA Convention Center.

Those not invited to the lavish after party had to exit through the back doors.

There was an alternate third route, however, for the last winner of the night.

That's the one the "Modern Family" crew used, winding their way through the pressroom, past the backstage area and into an elevator that held most of them.

"I'm going to latch onto one 'Modern Family' person for the rest of the night," said the show's kid star, Nolan Gould, as he was the last to make it in.

___

'GAME CHANGE' FOR TOM HANKS

Tom Hanks shakes his hands, perhaps to get a good grip, as he prepares to select his take-home Emmy from the backstage trophy table.

"What do I do?" asks Hanks, who collected a trophy as one of the producers of "Game Change," honored as best miniseries or made-for-TV movie at Sunday's Emmys.

"Now what?" he asks after signing for the trophy. He's directed to a bank of ready photographers.

"Come on Rita, get in here!" A fellow "Game Change" producer shouts to Hanks' wife, Rita Wilson, as flashbulbs pop.

AN EMMY KODAK MOMENT

It's Kodak Moment time backstage at the Emmys, with "The Daily Show" winners taking photos of each other holding their Emmys.

"Do they still ship these if you ask?" inquired the show's head honcho, Jon Stewart.

"Yeah, because I have two children with me," he added, noting the statuette's pointy wings.

But he borrowed a trophy so he could pose for a photo with his writing team. He promised to return it before leaving the theater.

'MANDY PATINKIN, HOLLA!'

Claire Danes came up with the catchphrase of the night when she saluted her "Homeland" co-star during her Emmy acceptance speech thusly: "Mandy Patinkin, holla."

Danes, taking the stage after winning best actress in a drama for the Showtime series, mentioned several names before matter-of-factly calling out Patinkin in the most unexpected way.

Twitter went nuts, with many people suggesting that this saying needs to become a meme, and soon.

As the pop-culture site (at)Gawker put it: "'Mandy Patinkin, holla' is the new Angelina Jolie's leg." From New York Magazine's (at)Vulture site: "'Mandy Patinkin, holla' is the best thank-you ever." And from NPR's (at)nprmonkeysee: "If the Internet doesn't remix 'Mandy Patinkin, holla' by tomorrow morning, it is a failure."

Others suggested that Jewish delis begin baking Mandy Patinkin challah. Still others made references to Patinkin's Broadway bona fides with "Evita" jokes.

If someone can figure out a way to incorporate Patinkin's famous line from "The Princess Bride" ? "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die" ? then the Internet might truly be worthwhile after all.

___

'HOMELAND' STAR JOKES ABOUT PLAYING HOUSE

Married actor Damian Lewis joked to reporters that he might be doing some extra celebrating with "Homeland" co-star Claire Danes, who is also married and came to the Emmys with a baby bump.

"We're going away to a romantic island together," the red-headed British actor joked. "When that baby is ginger you guys are going to have a field day."

The comment may have gotten some members of the press too excited, one of whom asked Danes a few moments later how she viewed the win in light of giving birth.

"Thank god I am not giving birth," said Danes, who's in an earlier stage of pregnancy.

The pair reunited later in another backstage area, looking very platonic and like two friends enjoying each other's success.

___

KIMMEL EVENS THE SCORE

Don't ever cross Jimmy Kimmel.

The Emmy host warmly introduced his parents, who were seated in the audience, and told viewers they had always been supportive of their son.

"They always told me I could do anything I set my mind to," he said, "and this year I set my mind to winning the Emmy.

"And guess what? I didn't," he went on. "You told me I could, and I didn't, and I'm devastated. You lied to me!"

Egged on by Tracy Morgan, who was seated beside them and stated, "I don't trust them," Kimmel summoned security to remove Mom and Dad from the auditorium.

"It's OK if you Taser them if you need to," he told the security men.

___

DANES PROUD OF OBAMA BEING A FAN

Claire Danes loves that President Barack Obama is a fan of her show "Homeland."

"No pressure," the actress said backstage after her win for lead actress in a drama series at Sunday's Emmy Awards. "It's way cool that he is a fan. It speaks to the relevancy of the show and it's hugely validating.

Obama has said the Showtime series about a Marine returning home after being held as a POW, and who is now suspected by a CIA agent as working for al Qaeda, is his favorite.

___

TIME FOR A NEW TATTOO

Damian Lewis was so over the moon at winning an Emmy that he says he's thinking of having "Emmy Winner" tattooed on, well, somewhere on the back of his body.

"I'm overwhelmed that I am here!" said the winner of the best actor award for a drama series for "Homeland."

When told backstage that he could have the trophy engraved with his name at the Governors Ball after the show, he contemplated complementing that with body art.

But first he had to sign for his award, and as he did couldn't hold his hands still.

"It's like my grandmother used to write ? all shaky," he said.

"Just tell me what to do," he continued. "I'm out of my mind."

OMG! KIMMEL HIJACKS TWITTER

So this is how time-wasting celebrity rumors get started.

Emmy host Jimmy Kimmel instructed people to go on Twitter and Facebook and write something along the lines of: "OMG, Tracy Morgan just passed out at the Emmys. Turn on ABC right now!" as a prank, just to see how quickly the information would spread (and inspire new viewers). Morgan, who was in on the gag, complied.

And, true to the pack mentality that develops instantaneously on social media, untold thousands of people actually did this. Many others simply read the words "Tracy Morgan" and "passed out" and thought Morgan truly had passed out.

Even Stephen Colbert (at)StephenatHome and Rosie O'Donnell (at)Rosie got in on the action, which prompted thousands more retweets.

Morgan was committed to the act, though: Not only did he lie down on stage, he actually stayed there through the commercial break and was hauled away, rambling to himself.

CRYER IS NOW TOP DOG

The changing of the guard is complete.

Jon Cryer truly was shocked to win an Emmy Sunday in his first outing as a nominee for lead actor in a comedy series.

That category used to belong to Cryer's former "Two and a Half Men" co-star Charlie Sheen. But with Sheen famously dumped from the CBS program, Cryer was elevated to top dog status.

"I will be impossible to live with," he quipped backstage after collecting his award. "I will be brandishing this regularly."

Cryer said he figured Jim Parsons of "The Big Bang Theory" would repeat as the winner.

"Clearly 'Big Bang' is just at the top of its game right now and unfortunately he's not gotten any worse," Cryer said. "I just did not think this was going to happen, so I apologize for my speech."

KAT'S CURVES

It's a happy fact of life for male viewers that "Mad Men" star Christina Hendricks and "Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara are, well, curvy.

And their curves were on ample display at Sunday's night Emmy telecast.

But the night's big surprise: Kat Dennings in a gown that exposed much of what had only been hinted at in her "2 Broke Girls" waitress uniform.

Her bustline had viewers' jaws dropping and tweeters madly tweeting.

___

NO BOW TIE FOR KEVIN COSTNER

Kevin Costner went against the bow tie fashion trend at this year's Emmy Awards, sporting an open collar look that at least beat the searing heat on the red carpet.

The nominee for lead actor in a miniseries or movie for "Hatfields & McCoys" kept his arm around the waist of wife Christine Baumgartner as he arrived for the show. Asked to describe her gown, Costner said, "I can't wait to go home and close the door."

Stephen Colbert whipped out a blotting paper to make the sweat on his upper lip disappear before facing the throng of TV cameras.

Christine Baranski of "The Good Wife" shimmered under the relentless sunshine in a gold-and-silver sequined short dress. She eschewed a gown, saying she didn't want people stepping on it all night.

"I tried this on and it rocks," she said.

A MAD MAN MOMENT IN EMMY LOBBY

It was life imitating art just off to the side of the red carpet outside the Nokia Theatre entrance as "Mad Men" newbie Ben Feldman caught a smoke.

The resourceful first-time nominee discovered a corner tucked away from the scads of cameras and celebrities that was the perfect spot for a quick pre-show cigarette.

Unfortunately, there weren't any bottles of scotch nearby for him to wash it down with, but just inside the lobby of the Nokia Theatre attendees were lined up at the concession stand for $10 cocktails.

Feldman's "Mad Men" leading man Jon Hamm held court on the other side of the lobby, attracting a line of attendees who wanted a photo with the veteran nominee.

MOMS GOT THEIR DUE FROM THE RED CARPET

Moms weren't forgotten on the red carpet.

Rico Rodriguez, young star of "Modern Family," brought his mother as his date, presenting her to the world as "the beautiful ma-ma."

The pair were even featured in a prerecorded bit that tracked their progress in a limo from home to the Emmycast.

And earlier Stephen Colbert, while being interviewed with his wife at his side, took a moment to phone his 91-year-old mom on his cellphone to say hello.

"I've shouted at her 'We're on ABC!'" he told interviewer Josh Elliott.

FROM 1 JIMMY TO ANOTHER

Jimmy Fallon is playing musical chairs at this year's Emmy Awards, in more ways than one.

The 2010 Emmy host, interviewed on the red carpet, noted he has passed hosting duties on to another Jimmy this year, name of Kimmel.

As a result, Fallon said, he doesn't even have a ticket to the 2012 show.

"But Clint Eastwood said he was going to save me a chair," Fallon cracked.

His advice to this year's Jimmy: "Don't make out with Betty White. There's cameras everywhere and you'll get caught. And definitely go to Honey Boo Boo's after-party, cause that's gonna be where it's at."

SEEING STARS ON THE RED CARPET

At the Emmys there's the red carpet and then there's ? well ? the other red carpet.

As the main red carpet fills up, security tries to keep the line moving by directing the big stars down the carpet where cameras are lined up to film them and entertainment journalists are waiting to interview them.

Meantime, the less famous are directed down a parallel red carpet closer to the fan bleachers.

"Please continue walking," security guards continuously say.

Sometimes they'll also give a gentle nudge to someone on the B-list red carpet who lingers too long taking pictures of the folks on the A-List red carpet.

KEEPING COOL IN THE FAN BLEACHERS

Fran and Elmer Armstrong are awards show veterans, joining throngs of fans for at least their sixth Emmy Awards Show on a sweltering Sunday afternoon.

The retired St. Louis couple's quest for a front row seat in the fan bleachers beside the red carpet began when they lined up outside the Nokia Theatre around 7:30 a.m. Sunday. As the day progressed, and temperatures rose, they hung in there, cheering as the cameras from E! Entertainment television filmed pre-show segments.

"Goodbye Giuliana," 70-year-old Elmer Armstrong shouted to anchor Giuliana Rancic as the E Entertainment crew wrapped up.

With temperatures topping 90 degrees, he and his 71-year-old wife were like many in the stands ? trying to keep cool with water and wet paper towels. At least this year's stands are shaded. Elmer Armstrong recalled one year when fans were forced to sit in the blazing sun.

That's not the only change to this year's fan seating ? a tall wall keeps fans from glad-handing or even getting autographs from cooperative celebrities.

Elmer Armstrong remains at the ready, however ? keeping his digital SLR camera and telephoto lens handy to get shots of the stars.

Gilbert Melendez injury causes Strikeforce to cancel Saturday?s card

Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez was hit with an injury just a week before he was scheduled to fight Pat Healy. He had to withdraw from the fight. Without Healy-Melendez, Showtime decided not to air the card. Without Showtime, Strikeforce canceled the event.

"When Showtime informed us that it would not be airing the event, we made the difficult decision to cancel Saturday's card in Sacramento," Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said via press release. "Without a television partner, we simply could not move forward with this event. We wish Gilbert a speedy recovery and will work diligently and quickly to reschedule the fighters affected by this news on upcoming cards."

This is the second major injury to hit Strikeforce recently. UFC heavyweight Frank Mir pulled out of his Nov. 3 bout with Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix champ Daniel Cormier with an injury.

Healy told Bloody Elbow Radio that he was told he would not be fighting again until Melendez is healthy, and that he wasn't given the option to fight someone else.

"I'm like in a daze, still. I have to think about, if Gil's going to be out six months and I have to wait the whole time, I have to start making some plans to make money right now so I'm not in a situation where I have to make money right before training for a fight," Healy said.

Outside of Melendez Healy, Saturday's card featured:

? Guto Inocente vs. Gian Villante
? Caros Fodor vs. Josh Thomson
? Adriano Martins vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg
? Quinn Mulhern vs. Jorge Santiago
? Jorge Gurgel vs. Mizuto Hirota
? Amanda Nunes vs. Cat Zingano
? Mike Kyle vs. Dion Staring
? Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Yuri Villefort
? Michael Bravo vs. Estevan Payan

Those fighters didn't create enough firepower for Showtime. Perhaps a re-airing of the "Weeds" season finale will be enough for the network instead of a live sporting event.

This creates a problem for the Strikeforce fighters on the card. One of the complaints heard most often from Strikeforce fighters is that they don't fight enough. In 2012, Strikeforce has held just five fight events. With such infrequency, fighters have few chances to fight and make money from their fight purse and sponsors.

Outside the main event, Strikeforce has nine fights place. Though there is room on the Nov. 3 card, it won't be enough to accommodate every fighter. Plus, the fighters thought they were getting paid on Sept. 29, and best case scenario has them getting paid a month from now. Fighting is never an easy way to make a living, but cancelling cards in the last minute makes the job much harder.

The Many Choices Of Home Business Internet Marketing Online ...

Quality Web Hosting

The Many Choices Of Home Business Internet Marketing Online

If you plan to have a home business, you need to decide how to market it. Internet marketing typically involves using the internet to advertise a company?s products or services. It has become more popular lately because business owners have found that anyone can use it, including small business owners.

There are many different components of home business internet marketing. You should become somewhat familiar with the keywords if you plan to get paid to market online at home, or even if you plan to market your own home business.

The main aspects of home business internet marketing online are article marketing, pay per click advertising, banner ads, blog marketing, e-mail marketing, and affiliate marketing. Article marketing, blog marketing and e-mail marketing all involve writing, so if that is your strength, you can concentrate on those.

E-mail Marketing

For example, e-mail marketing simply consists of sending out mass e-mails, hoping that many people will reply. In order to get and keep their attention, your writing should be colorful and persuasive. This way, they may give your website a chance and actually check it out, perhaps buying a product. If that even happens occasionally, then e-mail marketing efforts will be worth it.

Article Marketing

Article marketing, obviously another way to use your writing strength, entails writing articles about different aspects relating to your business and sending them to online magazines. They will usually include facts about you and your business at the end, which may lead people to click on your website.

Other Advertising Techniques

On the other hand, banner ads, affiliate marketing and pay per click marketing involve mainly creativity, as your goal is to entice consumers to click the ads to go to the website. How to Use Instagram to Promote Your Business | Constant Contact ...

This article is part of our series for London Social Media Week. Read all the posts in this series.

Instagram is a mobile photo editing and sharing app that saw its user base explode from 15 to 80 million since Facebook acquired the company back in April.

But even before the acquisition, many savvy brands had joined the platform?especially retail brands with stunning visual content. Clothing, media, and design-based brands were a natural fit for both the platform technology and Instagram?s early adopter user base.

However, unlike Facebook or Twitter, Instagram doesn?t have business-specific profiles, built-in visibility or engagement metrics, or paid advertising options.

So why are brands rushing to join yet another social network? Here?s why:

Instagram is easy-to-use ? and awesome!

Instagram?s technology helps you easily create stunning images that you can easily use on your other social networks.

Both Facebook and Twitter have optimized how photos are displayed on these platforms and you can share directly from Instagram to those platforms (as well as to Tumblr, Foursquare, Flickr, and email) automatically or by individual selection.

Instagram allows visual storytelling with no advertising

Both the way the platform works (the technology) and the way most users approach the platform (the user experience) allows brands to employ visual storytelling that has more continuity and artistic value than other platforms.

With the absence of advertising (or even clickable links in captions or comments), business uses for an Instagram profile begin and end (for now) with awareness and branding. However, a few images that encapsulate a brand moment in a second or two is much more impactful than lines and lines of copy?no matter how brilliant the writing is.

Instagram is mobile ? perfect for what people want ? instagramification

Instagram combines two of the most powerful forces in the social technology market?mobile and photo sharing?to create a platform that truly offers a unique value proposition. Brands with an Instagram presence can take advantage of that intersection where users are focusing their attention.

Here are six tips to help you get the most out of this powerful tool:

1. Use images to tell a story, not blast your branding

If you sell a product or service, make sure the images you use are about the experience of using the product or service, and not a product placement ad.

Starbucks is an example of a big brand that does this well. Sure their photos show lots of Starbucks cups, but their photos also tell a story?the focus is always on what the person is doing while enjoying their coffee?on the beach, reading a book, etc.

There?s not a lot of tolerance for marketing that?s obviously marketing. Keep it subtle and keep the focus on your customers.

2. Most photos fall into two categories: beautiful imagery or humor

Make sure your Instagram photos fall into one of these categories. Most users aren?t posting all their random party pics to their Instagram stream and brands should exercise similar constraint. Photo albums in that vein are for Facebook. Think of your Instagram photos as high value/low volume.

3. Don?t post too often

A general rule, don?t post more than three photos in a row or one every three hours. If you post more often than that, you run the risk of hogging your users? feed.

Anecdotally, I?ve noticed that most users follow between 50 and 250 users. I think this is a sign of social media maturity?folks are learning from their experiences on Facebook and Twitter that following too many accounts is overwhelming.

Also, unlike Facebook, the commitment level to an account is low??unfollows? can happen frequently. Don?t automatically share your Instagram photos?editorially select and customize each?one for the appropriate platform.

And remember, you can use apps like PicFrame to include several snaps in one Instagram. Just be sure the images are related and the impact is magnified (rather than splintered) when you use a collage.

4. Choose an account name that?s the same as your Twitter handle

Having the same Instagram account name and Twitter handle serves two purposes. One?your profile will be easily recognizable and easy to find. And two?if you are tagged by another user in a caption and that photo is shared on Twitter, that tag will link to your Twitter profile. It ensures that tagging makes sense when an Instagram photo is shared on other networks.

5. Use hashtags, but don?t be creepy about it

Like on Twitter, hashtagging photos enables discovery of your profile by users outside of your primary connections. You can use the search functionality on the app to find out which hashtags are often used. Like on Twitter, hashtagging Instagram?photos?by event, geolocation, or subject matter is a good idea.

Other hashtags people tend to use on Instagram are filters and colors. Hashtags tend to be somewhat limited on Twitter due to the character length limitations. Because Instagram doesn?t have these limitations, this has encouraged some users and brands to stuff Instagram captions with every hashtag imaginable. Don?t do this?it looks like you?re trying too hard. Even worse, it makes you look like a spammer.

6. Set up an account on a web-based viewer

Instagram?s focus continues to be all about the mobile experience, but the app recently added the ability to view individual photos on the web through a shareable link. This feature allows your Instagram?stream?to not only be seen by those not using the app, but allows those who do have an account to like and comment on a shared photo right from the web. However, using a separate web-based viewer can help you manage your presence and track your progress.

Using Instagram?s API, these tools recreate your feed on a webpage, so you can view multiple photos at a time (without scrolling) on your computer. Most often you can make the same actions (liking, commenting, searching, tagging, etc.) on these web viewers that you can make on the mobile app. My favorite tool is Statigram?they even have a few basic metrics, comment notifications, and an Instagram campaign toolkit.

Bottom line: As the old adage goes?a picture is worth 1,000 words. It?s still true today, but with Instagram, a picture may also be worth 1,000 ?likes,? retweets,?and shares!
